Home-made Italian Beef Burger with rustic chips | Recipe

Home made italian beef burger

As many of you know I recently went on holiday to Italy with Chris. It was amazing (you can read more about our trip here) and whilst I was out there I tried to not have pizza or pasta each time we went out for food.

On the last day of our travels, we stopped at this little cafe in Sorrento's main square for some lunch - mainly because it had free wifi and we had about 4 hours to kill before we got the coach to the airport. Anyway, a little bored of pizza/pasta I opted for the beef burger and fries on the menu (I know.. so English.) but honestly was the best decision I made - this burger was incredible. I mean, one of the best burgers I have ever had. I really wish I had taken a photo - but it was demolished before I could even think about getting my camera out.

Anyway, longing for another one I was trying to think if I could re-create it. Well, this is attempt number one. And although it didn't really turn out anything like the one I had in Italy it did turn out pretty damn well. And tastes a little more Italian than a regular beef burger you can get anywhere.

Recipe serves 4

Ingredients:

For the burger -
500g mince beef
2 tablespoons of pesto
1 teaspoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of basil
1/4 cup of breadcrumbs
1 egg
Splash of olive oil
Pepper to taste

Chips -
4 x medium baking potatoes
Olive oil
Salt & Pepper to taste

Extras -
4 x burger rolls
Mozzarella
1 x Beef Tomato
Lettuce
1 x onion (fried)

Recipe:

Burger -
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl (with your hands - yes it's gross but its better)
Form into 4 medium sized patties
Fry on a pre-heated griddle pan for about 10 minutes flipping half way through
Put a slice of mozzarella on the burgers for the last couple of minutes to melt it slightly

Tip: fry the onions alongside the burgers for the last couple of minutes

Chips -
Peel and cut the potatoes into chip shapes
Coat in olive oil, salt and pepper and mix together
Oven cook on 200c for about 45 minutes

Enjoy!
