Meal Planning: Week 1
Does anyone else find that they spend a ridiculous amount of money on food?
I don't even know how I do it, I try to create cheap meals but food prices seem to be soaring on a weekly basis. In order to try and combat this and spend less money on food for the week I've made a few changes.
1. Creating a meal plan for the week and sticking to it!
2. Whenever possible, buying fruit and veg from the local market
(It's amazing how much cheaper - AND better quality the produce is from the market, it's saving me loads of pennies - it's just being able to find a free Saturday to go down there and pick it up which is the tricky thing!)
Here was my meal plan for the week just gone. This is based on feeding 2 but lots of the meals I made fed 4 and were eaten up by me and Chris the next day for lunch.
Monday
Rosemary & thyme lamb steaks served with mash, green beans and gravy
Tuesday
Creamy tomato and mozzarella pasta bake
Wednesday
Sausage and bean casserole
Thursday
Home-made Nandos in a pitta with spicy rice
Friday
We were out at a wedding reception so we didn't have dinner at home!
Saturday
Fish pie served with broccoli
Sunday
Roast chicken served with curly kale, carrots, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding and gravy
I'd say for these meals; as well as obvious stuff such as bread, milk and sandwich fillers (and alcohol!) our weekly shop was about £50 - not too bad. Just goes to show a little planning can actually save you money.
What do people think to this? Do you find food prices are getting higher and higher?
I'd also be really interested to know whether more 'Weekly Meal Plan' type posts would interest my readers! Or indeed if you would like any recipes featured from the plan uploaded the blog? :)

Yes! I LOVE meal planning & I do it every week near enough when I'm at university.

I feel the same way when I go to the grocery. I make a list that doesn't look like much and then at the register you feel so defeated. I try my best to meal plan and buy when things are on sale in bulk to freeze for use later. Your meals look delicious!
