There’s no denying that Indian cuisine might be one of my favourites, especially Indian street food. So when I was invited to the VIP launch of new Indian Street Food restaurant, Indico, based in Shirley Birmingham, I couldn’t wait to go along.
Walking in you’re met with brightly coloured interior, I honestly
felt transported to India rather than being in Birmingham! Amazing mural
paintings adorn the walls, as well as brightly coloured umbrellas hanging from
the ceiling.
On to the menu, which I absolutely loved the fact that it
was designed as a newspaper. Think small bites, tiffin boxes, curries and grilled
delights. They also had an extensive cocktail and mocktail range, which I was
very impressed with. I sampled the Wine Cooler and a mango flavoured cocktail and confirm
both were delicious. Priced similarly to all cocktails in Birmingham.
Food wise I did get to sample the tandoori chicken, vegetable
pakora, samosa chaat and lamb kebab. I can honestly say it was all delicious.
The samosa chaat was the stand out for me, so full of flavour and texture. The pakoras
were wonderfully spiced, and the meat was also flavoured really well and cooked
superbly.
Chris and I both agreed we can’t wait to go back and try the
menu out properly. I’m particularly excited to try some more of the street food
on offer and perhaps a Tiffin Box, a traditional Indian lunch box delivered to city workers, each box contains a choice of curry, 1 dal lentils rice or chapattis with salad and raita. Yum.Indico Restaurant is based at Parkgate Shopping Centre in Shirley, Birmingham.
Disclaimer: I was invited with a plus one to the VIP launch night of Indico. All views and opinions are honest and my own.
Ha, I shop at the Asda next door to Indico... I think a pre- or post-shop visit might be in order!
